The Story
This pretty Come Fly with Me Coffee or Tea Mug features the NZ native Fantail bird, designed by Northland Tattoo Artist Katy Hayward.
The beautiful cup features two pÄ«wakawaka (fantails, also called pÄ«waiwaka) swooping in the air, as they are bound to do, spreading their beautiful wings and exquisite tail feathers.Ā They are clutching mÄnuka flower twigs, and are flying with accompanying native butterflies.Ā
Fantails are one of our most common native birds, found in our native bush as well as the home garden.Ā They almost invite you to walk nearby, as your steps can move insects into the air, which fantail love to catch on-the-fly.
The mug comes to you or the recipient in a beautiful gift box.
The mug measures approximately 70mm x 140mm x 80mm (2 3/4" x 5 1/2" x 3 3/16").
There is a matching trinket dish available too.
I've known Katy for many years, as she went to Ngunguru School with my daughter.Ā And I have delightedly watched her growth as an amazing tattoo artist, predominantly decorating her customers' skin with the most finely detailed, intricate tattoos of New Zealand's wonderful wildlife.
Now she has turned her skills to decorating bone china pottery, making her art available to so many more people.Ā And I am honoured to be able to make it available to people all around the world.
