It is made from New Zealand Paua Shell, a beautiful native abalone shell with natural shades of blue, green, pink and purple. No two pieces are the same.
The necklace is carved in a Maori Double Twist design, called pikorua. The twist design signifies undying love or friendship between two people or families. So it makes a great gift between friends, lovers, and family.
On the right lower edge of the paua twist is a Maori kowhaiwhai tattoo design. The back of the necklace is a timber veneer with the words "AOTEAROA New Zealand made".
The necklace measures approximately 5cm (2") long, and hangs from a plaited cord approximately 40cm (15 3/4") long, with a chain extender. Closure is with a parrot clasp.
