The Story
This very cute Trinket Dish, with its pretty NZ Fantail Bird design, is designed by Northland Tattoo Artist Katy Hayward.
This lovely trinket dish, with a design called "Come Fly With Me", features a pÄ«wakawaka (or pÄ«waiwaka, NZ Fantail) in flight, carrying mÄnuka flower twigs.
Fantails are delightful native birds found in our native bush and also in the home garden.Ā They flit around, catching insects on the fly, and welcome humans walking nearby, in case we stir up some insects for them.
The dish comes to you or the recipient in a beautifully printed gift box.
The trinket dish measures approximately 115mm x 115mm x 20mm (4 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 3/4"), and as you can see, is perfectly imperfect in shape.Ā As natural as the natural species illustrated on it.
I've known Katy for many years, as she went to Ngunguru School with my daughter.Ā And I have delightedly watched her growth as an amazing tattoo artist, predominantly decorating her customers' skin with the most finely detailed, intricate tattoos of New Zealand's wonderful wildlife.
Now she has turned her skills to decorating bone china pottery, making her art available to so many more people.Ā And I am honoured to be able to make it available to people all around the world.
